Project Udaan : A Safe Haven for the Children of Indian Sex Workers | Stories Of Change
There are very few places on the planet which can be described as a living hell. Sonagachi in West Bengal, the biggest red-light district in Asia, can certainly be called as one. In Sonagachi, girls as young as 14 either come or are forced to become sex-workers. The children born to them have no aspirations, no future, and no support.
Started in 2012 by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Project Udaan was devised as a place which would give these children a life that even fate seemed to deny them. A shelter and a school rolled into one, Project Udaan provides the children of Sonagachi with a quality holistic education, food, and training of meditation and Yoga. With these attributes, they can not only dream to make a better life for themselves, but also for their families.
